Once Poor, Still Penurious.

    By Robert Herrick

    Goes the world now, it will with thee go hard:
    The fattest hogs we grease the more with lard.
    To him that has, there shall be added more;
    Who is penurious, he shall still be poor.

Extra Info:
To him that has, etc. The quotation is not from the Bible, but from Martial, v. 81:--

"Semper pauper eris, si pauper es, Aemiliane.
Dantur opes nulli nunc nisi divitibus."

Cp. also Davison's Poet. Rhap., i. 95. Ed. Bullen.
